The Venice Film Festival is the world’s oldest cinematic competition and the most glamorous week on the Lido. The 83rd edition runs from September 2 to 12, transforming the Palazzo del Cinema and the surrounding Lungomare Marconi into a temporary city of premieres, parties, and power negotiations. The Palazzo del Cinema — Seating Tiers
The Sala Grande, the Palazzo’s main screening room, seats 1,700 guests across three tiers: the orchestra (ground level), the corbeille (the central balcony), and the upper gallery. For festival premieres, the corbeille is the preferred location — it offers the most complete view of both the screen and the audience, which matters because the audience (the directors, the cast, the distributors) is as important as the film. Access to the corbeille is controlled by the festival’s accreditation system and typically reserved for industry professionals and press. Octobere has secured a limited allocation of corbeille passes for the 2026 festival, granting access to the gala screenings and the post-premiere receptions held in the Palazzo’s Salone degli Stucchi.
Private Launch Transfers
The Lido is accessible from Venice by vaporetto (the public water bus) or by private water taxi. For festival week, Octobere recommends a private launch as the primary mode of transport. A dedicated water taxi, arranged for the full week, costs between €6,000 and €12,000 depending on the vessel and the schedule. The benefit is not merely convenience — arriving at the Palazzo del Cinema by private launch, stepping onto the red carpet from the water, is a statement of intent that positions the guest within the festival’s ecosystem. The After-Parties — The Lido After Dark
The official festival after-parties are the most coveted invitations on the Lido. Armani hosts its annual dinner at the Palazzo Dandolo on the Grand Canal, a guest list limited to 150 that traditionally includes the festival’s jury members, the directors of the competition films, and a curated selection of international press. Cartier’s party at the Hotel Gritti Palace is the other fixed point of the social calendar, with a terrace overlooking the Grand Canal that hosts a champagne reception before a seated dinner. Hotel Cipriani — The Festival Base
The Hotel Cipriani, a Belmond property on Giudecca Island, is the unofficial headquarters of the Venice Film Festival. Its position, a five-minute private launch ride from the Lido, offers the perfect balance of proximity and seclusion. The property’s restaurant, Oro, holds two Michelin stars and serves a tasting menu that draws on Venetian lagoon ingredients. The Cipriani’s pool, heated year-round and surrounded by a 2-acre garden, provides a sanctuary from the festival frenzy.
